India Is Celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas Today

India is paying homage to the martyrs of the Kargil war and celebrating its famous victory over Pakistan in 1999 in the Kargil War on today. Defense minister Manohar Parrikar along with Army, Navy and Air Force chiefs paid homage in memorial service at Amar Kawan Jyoti in the Delhi to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas as well as the sacrifice made by the soldiers.

Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag, at the war memorial in Drass on Monday, paid homage to the martyrs of Operation Vijay, name given by the Army to the operation during the Kargil war.

A Defense statement said, “General Dalbir Singh, chief of the army staff, paid homage to the martyrs of ‘Operation Vijay’ at the historic Kargil War Memorial at Drass in Kargil district (Jammu and Kashmir) today.”

The reports said the Army chief, along with Lt. Gen. DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command, and GOC Fire and Fury Corps, interacted with the widows and relatives of martyrs and other awardees during the event.

The statement further said, “Speaking on the occasion, the army chief paid glowing tributes to the supreme sacrifices and expressed his gratitude to the martyrs, their next of kin and the Veer Naris.”

The week long celebration for 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas started from July 21 in Drass under the patronage of Fire and Fury Corps. The event included several local residents and youths along with children of Drass and Kargil regions.

Statement said, “The Solemn memorial service is scheduled at the war Memorial on Monday evening at the celebrations will come to a close with a formal wreath-laying ceremony by the Army Commader, Norther Command.”

On July 26, 1999 Indian Armed forces, under difficult situations, managed to take back the control of the parts in Kashmir which was taken by the Pakistani intruders. Since the day, country has always been celebrating the Kargil Vijay Diwas in memory of the biggest success of the Indian Armed Forces and its soldiers.
