Dahi Handi Festival Celebration: Raj Thackeray Slammed Supreme Court

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief and a senior politician in Maharashtra, Raj Thackeray has questioned the Supreme Court’s judgment to uphold Bombay HC judgment to apply few restrictions on Dahi Handi festival celebration.

The MNS chief said, “I don't think the courts should interfere in to all these festivals, the festivals have been happening for years together. The courts are taking all the decisions if this goes on, why have the assembly or Lok Sabha elections? Let the courts decide on everything.”

Raj Thackeray further added that the judiciary has been harsh on Hindu festivals and questioned that why no action was taken on children participating on Muharram.

He also slammed Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for not concentrating enough on the issue. He said, “The government should have given good lawyers in the Supreme Court to argue our case. The Chief Minister is responsible for this.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court had upheld the decision by the Bombay HC to limit the Dahi Handi human pyramid to 20 feet and had banned the youths below 18 years of age from participating in the pyramids.
