Akhilesh Yadav calls off luxury car for “poor” MLAs proposal

Whole nation reacted caustically protesting against the proposal of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav which allowed all MLA's to purchase luxury sedans with the money from the Local Area Development funds. UP's Chief Minister had to call off his proposal in just one day of proposal due to the uproar in the country.

According to Akhilesh Yadav's proposal in the UP Assembly hall all legislatives were allowed to withdraw up to Rs.20 Lakh from the Local Area Development funds to purchase a luxury sedan or an SUV to travel to different constituencies without any trouble while serving the people. He also hiked the MLADAD amount allocated to each legislator from 1.25 crore to 1.5 crores for the term of 5 years.

With the current strength of the legislatives of 403 MLA's and 93 MLCs the burden of a 20 lakh car each would amount to more than a Rs 100 crore burden. The proposal stated that the registration of the vehicle was to done under the name of State Government and returned once the 5 year term finishes. They could also buy the vehicle by paying the depreciated amount after their term.

BJP and other opposition parties criticized the proposal strongly all over the country. BJP leader Hukum Singh in UP said “This proposal expemplifies the misuse funds meant for area development and BJP would condemn the purchase of any vehicles from the funds”.
