North East Students Threatens To Launch Agitation Against DU’s CTH

After the Delhi University’s Hindi department has ordered colleges to start teaching a course to all Indian students who have not studied it till Class VIII, so that they can clear the Compulsory Test in Hindi (CTH), the North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has threatened to kickstart an agitation against the decision.

The students from North East, who was one exempted from this requirement, are now furious on the decision. However, colleges have said that they can’t go ahead with the department’s direction unless the university asks them to.

The CTH has been a debated issue since a long time. During the meeting with the academic council in July, the CTH’s syllabus, based on choice-based credit system mode, was passed bu the minutes had no mention of it.

AN AC-member Rudrashish Chakraborty said, “Students from Jammu and Kashmir, the northeastern states and foreign students were exempt from clearing the CTH, but the minutes of the AC meeting don't mention them.”

The NEFIS, threatening for an agitation said, “Imposition of Hindi on DU students, who come from different parts of the country, is another disgraceful attempt to discriminate against them.”
