21 Dead Including Two Police, Between Encroachers-Police Clash At Mathura

In a clash between encroachers and Police, 21 people are dead including an SP-rank police and a constable during a drive to dislodge illegal occupants of land in Mathura district. Over 40 people are injured in the event.

The clash erupted when on the orders of Allahabad High Court police were trying to remove illegal occupants of a land in Jawahar Bhagh by activists believed to be of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi.

H R Sharma, IG (Law and Order) said, “Around 3,000 encroachers pelted stones and later opened fire at the police team as they reached the spot. In retaliation, the police had to fire after using batons and tear gas at them.”

“Search operations were on in Jawahar Bagh though activists of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi were evicted by the joint operation of police, PAC and RAF,” said Vivek Sharma, Chief Medial Officer of the district.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announed ex-gratia of Rs. 20 lakh to the family of the deceased policeman. He has directed Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) to rush to the spot and bring the situation under control.

The land had been occupied by the self-claiming satyagrahi and followers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, for the past two years. Earlier on Wednesday, the Mathura administration issued them notices to vacate the place.
