Earlier, while promoting his upcoming film Madaari the actor had lashed out animal sacrificing on the occasion of Ramazan and said, “We have forgotten real meaning of rituals. We have made them a tamasha (farce).”
He added, “Qurbani means sacrificing something close to your heart and sharing with others. Today, you buy a goat from the market for sacrifice. It is something to think about, it is a matter of common sense, we all should ask ourselves how sacrificing another life earns as any goodwill.”
He noticed the importance of understanding the meaning of rituals and festivals to protect from any misuse and said, “We have made a mockery of Muharram. It is meant for mourning and we take out processions.” He also commented on Muslim leaders’s silence on terrorism.
In response, a cleric Qalam Raza Nuri has said, “I don’t know in what context he said it, but I know that performers don’t know much about religion. I advise him to stay in limits.” Another cleric Zafaryab Gilani, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board said, “Such comments are condemnable”. Some even said that the actor is trying to make a controversy for promoting his upcoming film, Madaari.
Meanwhile, Madaari, directed by Nishikant Kamat and co produced by Irrfan Khan, is all set to hit the theaters on July 15, 2016.
