Portuguese Are The Best Dads, A Report States

A report by the Fatherhood Institute’s  Fairness In Families Index showed that when it comes to parenting British fathers ranks behind the rest of the developed world. The report published ahead of the the Father’s Day on June 19.

The research stated that British men spend only 24 minutes of care for every hour provided by women, resulting in putting UK at the bottom at the list of 15 countries.

Portuguese men ranked at the top of the list as they spend 39 minutes while taking care of their child against an hour spend by women, report said.

However, British fathers ranked fifth at the list of sharing chores as they spend 34 minutes of housework and cooking for every hour a woman does. Will McDonald, chairman, Fatherhood Institute said, “The analysis showed that compared to other countries, the UK has failed to create the structures to support families to achieve the greater sharing that they want and that is so important for the children's futures. This needs to change, or we will continue to fall behind”.

With 17.4 percent difference, the pay gap between men and women in United Kingdom is 15th worst out of 22 countries, according to the data analyzed by the institute. New Zealand ranked at the top in fairest pay across the sexes with 5.6 per cent difference.

Various findings in the report have suggested policy changes government could initiate to make progress at the path to gender equality.
