Kapil Dev To Ring Bell On First day Of Kolkata Test

Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev will be ringing the bell at Eden Gardens in Kolkata to signify the start of play during the second Test match between India and New Zealand starting from Friday (September 30). Eden Gardens will be the first Indian stadium where a bell will be rung to signal the start of each day’s play, which is something normal at Lord’s since 2007.

Although Kapil Dev is confirmed for the first day, currently there are no reports which eminent personalities will do the honors on the remaining four days of the Test.

Avishek Dalmiya, Joint Secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) confirming the news said, “This was (president) Sourav Ganguly's idea and Kapil (Dev) has agreed to ring the bell on the morning of the Test.”

The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anurag Thakur confirmed that on the occasion of 250th Test of Indian Team at home, special felicitation has been organized and the players from both the teams will be gifted with specially minted silver coins, each of them weighing 100 grams. “The Board president will arrive on October 1 and the next day, on day three of the match we will have the felicitation to mark the 250th landmark Test,” said Avishek.

CAB President Sourav Ganguly said that the special gold coin will be arranged to mark the Toss and the coin will be used in every match at the Eden Gardens henceforth.

After taking 1-0 lead by beating New Zealand by 197-runs in Kanpur Test, Team India along with New Zealand players will be arrived in Kolkata on Tuesday evening.
