Sarcos from Venezuela grabs the Miss World 2011 honours

The earth has crowned the latest reigning queen of the world at the Earls Court Two in London on Sunday, at a glittering function.

Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos (21) was the new Miss World, a human resources graduate, whose ambition is to work with children, grabbed the honour to enlighten the work of her own foundation to help youngsters. She currently works for a broadcasting company, said her future ambition was to work with non-governmental organizations and children, according to the Miss World web site.

The competition which was marked the ultimate pageant contest for women had been criticized in the in recent years for being outdated and little more than a chance to look good in swimwear. But of the 122 contestants, whom Sarcos beat, a quarter are graduates and more than half speak three or more languages. Whatever be the pros on cons the beauty contest was broadcast live to more than 150 countries and was watched by a billion viewers.

Dominican Republic was awarded Miss World 2011 Sports Champ. Miss England was Miss World 2011 Beach Beauty, Kazakhstan was Miss World 2011 Top Model, while Miss World 2011 Talent title went to Miss Chile, and Miss Ghana and Miss Indonesia jointly shared the title of Beauty with a Purpose.

In keeping with the tradition, the Miss World flag was passed on to the next host country, which is the City of Ordos in Mongolia, China.
