Teachers Abducted In Libya Have Been Rescued, Confirmed Sushma Swaraj

India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday confirmed that the two Indian teachers T Gopalakrishna and C Balaramkishan, who were abducted in Libya last year have been rescued.

Earlier, both the teachers with two other colleagues were kidnapped and abducted in Libya by a group which owes allegiance to Islamic State. While Gopalakrishna belongs to Andhra Pradesh, Balaramkishan hails from Telangana.

The other two colleagues, Laxmikant Ramakrishna (37) of Raichur and Mulbagil Vijay Kumar (56) of Bengaluru, were rescued just days after the kidnapping.

As all of them were working for University of Sirte in northern Libya, they were on their way back to India, when they all were got kidnapped, reports said. They were en-route to Tripoli airport in a casr before they were kidnapped at a checkpoint 50 km from Sirte.

Earlier, in August 2014, the tensions rose in Libya hundreds of Indians were evacuated and the teachers were also the part of it. However, they visited the country again when the University opened in September 2014.
