Several Hundreds of Muslims had taken took the streets protesting against the anti-Islam movie at the American Center in the city demanding American officials to apologize for it.

The protestors, belonging to Muslim organisations, including the All-Bengal Minorities Youth Federation, broke barricades and tried to approach the highly-fortified American Centre on Chowringee. Police however managed to block them a safe distance before they could infiltrate the American center.

However the traffic was badly affected with the cars gridlocked in tight snarls at Chowringhee and CR Avenue. These snarls also precipitated others at south and the north Kolkata.
