A Plane Skidded Off The Runway At Italy’s Bergamo Airport

A plane of the courier DHL skidded off the runway at the Italy’s Orio Al Serio Airport in Bargamo on Friday according to the reports. Although the officials said no one was harmed in the incident, the traffic faced difficulties as the plane’s nose was busting through a parameter fence on a highway.

The images went viral on television news channels showed a plane blocking a roadway and surrounded by emergency vehicles. The plane was later removed with the help of a crane.

According to the Italian aviatoon officer, Boeing 737-400 overshot the runway on landing from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport just after 4 am. The cause of the skidding is being investigated and the pilot as well as the first officer are totally safe.

The Bergamo airport, which is the country’s third-busiest, with over 10 million passengers in 2015, is also a hub for low-cost airlines and cargo traffic. The airport was closed for about 2 and a half hours, resulting into the cancellation of 15 flights. Some flights were delayed and few were rerouted to Milan’s Malpensa airport.
