Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, drove down to the residence of Ms. Gandhi at 10, Janpath and held discussions with her for about 20 minutes during which the Congress president asked him about the government’s view on the three main suggestions given by the Congress on GST.
Mr. Naidu told Ms. Gandhi that issues raised by the Congress in respect of GST Bill were considered by the government and the government’s position was communicated to Congress leaders.
The NDA government has agreed to accept the conditions set by the Congress party to back a landmark tax reform, parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu said.
“Sonia said they (Congress) will discuss among themselves and take a final decision,†Naidu said. Naidu added that the government is willing to bring forward the next Parliament session to pass the proposed goods and services tax bill (GST) if Congress supports the measure.

The proposed tax is India’s biggest revenue shake-up, since independence, would seek to replace a slew of federal and state levies, transforming the nation of 1.2 billion people into a customs union.
