Curfew Imposed In Entire Kashmir Valley On Eid

The authorities have imposed curfew in all the ten districts of the Kashmir valley on Tuesday on the occasion of Eid. According to the reports, helicopters as well as drones have also been pressed into service for close surveillance.

Earlier the separatists had called for a march on Eid to the local office of the United Nations, on the occasion of the opening of 71st sessions of United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York today.

The Army has been kept on stand by and will interfere only if the fresh violence erupted in the valley, sources said. The security personnel already stationed at sensitive points in rural areas, which have a history of violent protests.

According to the reports, this is for the first time in the Kashmir valley that curfew has been imposed on Eid since the militancy erupted in Kashmir valley in 1990.

Although for the first time, there will not be any Eid congregation at the Idgah and Hazratbal shrines, according to the sources, local people are allowed to offer Eid prayers in local mosques.

Shut down of the internet services in the valley of all telecom networks and also mobile telephone, except state-run BSNL, for the period of 72 hours has been already ordered by the government, keeping in mind the tense law and order situation in the state.
