Earlier, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, contradicting Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar’s comments that such surgical strikes has not happened in the past, while briefing a Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs, has been quoted by an unnamed person present in the meeting as saying , “Professionally done, target-specific, limited-calibre counter-terrorist operations have been carried out across the LoC in the past too, but this is for the first time that the government has made it public.”

Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar had said that it was the first time surgical strikes had taken place in the aftermath of the Uri Attack and what was undertaken previously were operations locally executed by commanders without involving the government.
