Ghulam Nabi Azad Held Meeting With Congress Leaders On Kashmir Unrest

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad held a meeting with fellow Congressmen over the situation in Kashmir, which is under violent conditions since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, around 50 days ago.

Azad discussed the issue with party leaders and tried to get the ideas to ease out the tensions in the valley soon. While speaking on late reaction by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, Azad said, “Agar sarkar ne hamari baat pehle maan li hoti to aaj bahut saari jaane bach jaati. (Had the government listened to us, today many people’s life would have been saved in Kashmir).”

He further said that it is now government of India’s duty to solve the issue, by adding that the center should reach out to all stakeholders and students as well.

Although the curfew is being lifted from various parts of Kashmir all the telecom lines are still shut down.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had met Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti and discussed the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also promised full support in bringing the situation back to normalcy. An all party delegation under the leadership of the Home Minister will visit Kashmir On September 4.
