PM Narendra Modi To Leave For G20 Summit In China Today Via Vietnam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to leave for Hangzhou, China for this year’s G20 Summit which is scheduled on September 4-5 after taking an important diplomatic halt at Vietnam. PM Modi is also scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of G20.

Modi will leave on the Friday afternoon after having a meeting with Egypt’s President, Gen Abdul Fattah el-Sisi, who is on her first visit to India and on his way to G20.

According to the experts, PM Modi’s Vietnam visit, where energy, defense and strategic partnership will be discussed, will be closely observed by China. In PM Modi’s visit to Vietnam, India is expected to give four petrol boats to the country.

Apart from this, in the oil sector, as India’s ONGC Videsh Limited is already involved in oil exploration in Vietnam since last three decades, new announcements of projects in the sector are also expected to come. Not to forget, this is first Vietnam visit by an Indian Prime Minister after 15 years, when the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Vietnam. According to MEA secretary Preeti Saran, India is expected to get additional blocks from China for oil exploration.

On the other hand, China wants India to refrain from oil exploration in Vietnamese blocks to ensure ‘peace and stability’ in South China Sea.

PM Modi have a hectic diplomatic visits to various countries on schedule as after attending G20 summit on September 4-5, PM will return to India and will leave for Laos on two-day visit to attend annual India-ASEAN and East Asia Summits on September 7.
