Kashmiri Separatists Call For Shut Down On Eid

The Kashmiri separatists supervising the current unrest have called for the state-wide shutdown on Eid-ul-Azha (Bakr Eid) and have asked the people to march to the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) on the day.

A combined organization of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu And Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has also called for Azadi March towards central Eidgahs which will be followed by a march to UN office for submitting memorandum to be conveyed to 71st session of General Assembly of United Nations which is starting from September 13.

The JRL spokesperson said, “Before Namaz, the Imams and Khateebs will read ‘let us pledge’ message to continue our struggle for freedom and boycotting all pro-occupation parties and leaders, elections, election rallies and election machinery, Everyone shall take the pledge.”

Although the shutdown has been announced during the day, relaxation for the night between 6 pm to 6 am is also announced, confirmed the spokesperson.

After 26 years, the separatists have called for shutdown on Eid. During the 2010 unrest, no shutdown on Eid was called. However, Mirwaiz led a march to Lal Chowk after offering prayers at Eidgah. Reports said that massive violence had occurred during the march as the protesters torched the Crime Branch headquarters and Power Development Department complex.

The spokesperson said, “Assemble and occupy highway from Banihal to Salambad- Uri and all other inter-district roads from afternoon on wards.”

“Chairing the meeting of officers, the Ministers discussed threadbare the availability of essential commodities including rice, atta, sugar and oil, transport agreements, cleanliness of Mosques and Eidgahs, ambulance services, uninterrupted power and water supply and repairs and renovation of street lights and roads,” the spokesperson further added.
