British PM Theresa May Promises Easier Travel To Indians

The Prime Minister of Britain, Theresa May, who is on her first to India, after taking the charge, has promised easier travels for Indian to Britain and said that it is vital to identify ways to deepen the trade relationship between the two countries before UK leaves the European Union. The British PM announced it while speaking at the Tech Summit in the national capital.

Theresa May, who will be having bilateral talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi over lunch, asserted that Britain would offer expedited clearance at the UK borders under a Registered Traveler Scheme to business travelers from India.

She also added that she wanted Britain to become a global standard bearer of free trade, saying more investments and fewer barriers to trade between Britain and India would increase prosperity. She said that India-UK shared a special bond.

PM Narendra Modi also said that as UK is a great friend of India, “We expect Make In India to be an important aspect of the India-UK bilateral engagement.”

Prime Minister Modi said, “It is vital that India and UK, two countries linked by history, work together to define the knowledge economy of the 21st century.”

The British PM arrived at the smog-bound New Delhi late on Sunday for a visit which will highly focused trade-related issues. May will be heading to Bengaluru on Tuesday. Reports said that she is accompanied with around more than 30 business leaders.

Theresa May’s visit to India is significant as it has come after the huge surprise that in the recent referendum in UK, the British people chose to leave the European Union, which was famously knows as Brexit and led to the resignation of the then PM David Cameron.
