Agriculture department's senior teacher in the renowned Visva Bharati University has allegedly molested a PhD aspirant on October 4. The Student complained to the anti-harassment committee of the university which is now probing into the issue based on the complaint and would submit a report on October 13.

The Manipuri girl has earned her Post Graduation degree last year at the university. A few sources said that she was interested in continuing her education further and had been trying to apply for a PhD at the University.

Siddhartha Deb Mukherjee the accused teacher on Thursday has tried to molest the girl in his chamber when she had come to submit a few documents.

"Mukherjee had asked me to come to his chamber in the evening and submit the required documents. After I handed over the papers, he asked me to transfer some data from the pen drive to his computer. While I was busy with the work, he suddenly hugged me from behind. I somehow managed to run away, but he chased me for a few yards before giving up," the girl told a popular news daily on the phone talking from Imphal.

After the charges were made against him, the teacher was ousted from the position. The spokesperson has said that the case would be further investigated by the anti-harassment committee. The accused lecturer refused to comment when the media approached him.
