Supreme Court Ordered Rahul Gandhi To Apologize For Remarks On RSS

The Supreme Court has asked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to apologize for his remarks on RSS or be ready to face a trial on Tuesday by refusing stay on Bombay High Court order dismissing his plea for quashing a defamation case against him for allegedly blaming Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Supreme Court said, “You can't make wholesale denunciation of an organisation. You must face trial. Case must be decided on merits, whether what you spoke was for public good or not. You can't make wholesale denunciation of an organisation. Purpose of law is not to turn citizens into litigants, history is the biggest enemy of privacy.”

The Court has given the time to Gandhi till July 27 place his arguments in the case.

Earlier, RSS activist Rajesh Kunte had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks on RSS in an election rally at Sonale on March 6, 2015. According to the complainant, Rahul said, “RSS people killed Gandhiji. RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk of him...They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji.”

After the magistrate’s order to appear before court, Rahu Gandhi had gone to the High Court for dismissing a case against him. His lawyers had said that there is no case against the Congress leader and he should be exempted from the case.

The prosecution in the case had opposed Rahul Gandhi’s petition and said that the Congress leader can plead his case and lead evidence.

Bombay High court had dismissed his petition and allowed him to go in Supreme Court against the appeal.
