PM Narendra Modi To Inaugurate Asian Ministerial Conference On Disaster Risk Reduction

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on Thursday.

According to the reports, this is the first major inter-governmental event after the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR).

The conference will the held from 3rd to 5th of November and will discuss the ways of implementation of the framework in the Asian region as well as will device a mechanism for tracking its process.

Adopted at the third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan in March 2015, the framework is first of its kind after 2015 which works for identifying targets and priority action areas towards lowering down the disaster risk.

Earlier, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also launched its first National Disaster Management Plan which has been designed according to the priorities defined in the Sendai framework.

Reports said that on the concluding day, the conference will adopt new Delhi Declaration, which will be a political commitment of participating governments to prevent and reduce disaster risk.

The conference will also adopt the Asian Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework, along with the voluntary statements of action towards shared responsibility approach in implementation of the SFDRR.
