AAP MLA Somnath Bharti Arrested For Allegedly Provoking People To Damage AIIMS Property

The Aam Aadmi (AAP) Party has faced the second arrest of its leaders in past 24 hours as after Amanatullah Khan, Somnath Bharti has been arrested for allegedly inciting the crowd to damage the boundary wall of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and misbehaving with security officials.

According to the reports, Bharti was arrested from Malaviya Nagar in the afternoon and taken to Hauz Khan police station where the case was registered against him on September 11.

A senior South Delhi Police officer said, “"He was taken to Hauz Khas Police Station and will be produced before a court later in the day.”

The chief security officer of the AIIMS, R S Rawat had filed a complaint against Bharti and had alleged that Bharti had provoked the mob to damage the fence of the hospital with JCB at Gautam Nagar Nallah road in order to give access to unauthorized persons inside AIIMS property and also misbehaved with security persons.

Reports said that the case has been registered against Bharti under IPC sections 147 (punishment for rioting)148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 3/4 Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Earlier Bharti had reacted on the issue and had accused AIIMS for lying.

He had said, “AIIMS is lying. They have been denying legitimate access to Gautam Nagar residents. AIIMS even refused to (go to) PWD meetings. Wherever common man will be troubled I will go. The allegation that residents dismantled the wall is a blatant lie. I will fight in court.”

Bharti was previously arrested in December 2015 when his wife case against him for attempt to murder and domestic violence.

AAP’s MLA and Delhi Waqf Board’s chairman Amanatullah Khan was arrested by South East Delhi police in connection with case of sexual harassment filed against him by his sister in law.

Surprisingly, AAP’s fifteen minister have been booked by the Delhi Police and among them 12 have been arrested.

However, defending Bharti, AAP has said that the action was a ‘diversionary tactics’ in the view of election in Goa and Punjab.

Delhi Health minister and AAP leader Satyender Jain said, “This is poll season and till the elections are not over in Goa and Punjab, arrests like these will keep happening.”
