Trinamool Congress ministers resign officially

Trinamool Congress on Friday afternoon had officially resigned from the UPA government after the resignation latter was handed over to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Members of the party led by Mukul Roy the president of the AICT parliamentary party in both the Houses had reached the 7RCR where he met the Prime Minister and submitted their resignations.

Mukul Roy is a Cabinet minister, Saugata Ray, Sisir Adhikari, Mohan Jatua, Sultan Ahmed and Sudip Bandopadhyay are ministers of state.

He later headed to the President residence, the Rashtrapati Bhawan where they would submit their letter speaking of their withdrawal of support to the UPA. In the letter they also stated several reason as to why they had made the decision.

Mukul Roy said the Trinamool Congress will launch nationwide protests against FDI in retail. He mentioned in the letter that the decision were taken without their consent though they were the second biggest member of the UPA alliance. He condemned that the decisions taken recently were anti-people and hence the AITC cannot support the UPA government.

On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee had announced her decision to withdraw support to the UPA protesting the Centre's decisions to hike diesel prices, withdraw subsidy on cooking gas and allow FDI in multi-brand retail.
