Six Militants Killed In An Encounter With Security Forces In Assam’s Karbi District

The six militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KLPT) group, including two of its top leaders have been killed in an encounter with security forces on Friday in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Reports said that an Army personnel was also injured in the encounter.

The Army men along with local police launched an operation at Banipathar area at around 1 AM on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Debojit Deuri told a news agency that militants exchanged fire with security forces inside the forest area.

According to Deuri, “Six KLPT militants were killed, while an army man was injured.”

By Saying that soon they will start identifying the dead militants, Deuri claimed that two top leaders of the group were killed during the encounter.

Deuri added that one SLR rifel, an INSAS rifle, three pistols and two grenades were recovered from the militants.

After the Karbi National Liberation Front (KLNF) declared the ceasefire in 2010-11, the KLPT was formed and the group is currently active in the remote areas of Bokajan.
