Godman Asaram Bapu’s Bail Plea To Be Heard By Supreme Court Today

The Supreme Court will be hearing the bail plea of a self-acclaimed Godman Asaram Bapu’s bail plea on Monday after it directed AIIMS to set up a medical board to check his health condition.

The medical board of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on October 3 had told the apex court that the health condition of Asaram Bapu was stable. The board also told to Justices AK Sikri and NV Ramana that Asaram had to undergo several medical tests as well.

Earlier in 2003, a minor had alleged that Asaram had sexually assaulted her at his Ashram in Jodhpur. He was arrested on August 31, 2013 and has been in jail since then. Asaram’s counsel has requested bail for his client citing health conditions.

Earlier in 2011, the apex court had denied the bail to Asaram. Rajasthan High Court had also denied bail to him citing that the case is on the verge to be solved and granting him bail would not be appropriate, making his ninth bail plea to be rejected by the court.
