Authorities Imposed Curfew In Kashmir To Prevent Post-Prayer Protests

In few parts of Kashmir, the authorities have imposed curfew to prevent post-prayer protests on Friday.

According to the police, the curfew has been imposed in old city Nowhatta area and the restrictions were remain in force in other parts to maintain law and order.

However, the leader of moderate Hurriyat group, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has announced that he will offer prayers on Friday at the Jama Masjid defying the restrictions.

Reacting to it, Mirwaiz has been kept under House Arrest in his uptown Nigeen residence in the outskirts of Srinagar.

Since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani, Kashmir valley has remained paralyzed for the 112th consecutive day, due to the protests called by the Separatists. The shutdown has now been extended till November 3.

Due to the shutdown, all educational institutions, schools, colleges and universities have remained closed. Main markets as well as public transport and other businesses have also remained closed during this period.

In the protests, 91 people have been already killed and 12,000 have been injured.
