WhatsApp Is Popular In More Than Half Of The World, Says The Report

Widely famous messaging app, WhatsApp has added one more feather in its crown as a report by a digital market intelligence company SimilarWeb suggests WhatsApp is the top messaging app in 109 countries across the world.

SimilarWeb surveyed 187 countries for the report and WhatsApp emerged as a clear winner in 109 countries or 55.6% of the world.

In India, WhatsApp is installed on 94.8%     of all Android devices and it is used for an average of 37 minutes daily, according to the report. Brazil, Mexico, UK, Russia and several countries of South America has a large userbase of WhatsApp other than India.

After WhatsApp, Facebook’s Messenger app ranked second all over the world with popularity in countries like Australia, Canada and the Unites States.

Viber, which showed a significant presence at third spot in 10 or more countries, has a huge number of users in Eastern Europe and is the top app in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and other. In fact, as of April 2016, Viber is installed in 65% of all the android devices and it used for 16 minutes a day. Including Iraq, Libya and Sri Lanka, Viber’s popularity reaches to the other parts of the world as well.

The other messaging apps like Line, WeChat and Telegram represented with countries such as China, Iraq and Japan along with other multiple countries. Japanese use Line for 40 minutes a day shows their obsession for the app. Apps that claimed only a single country include KakaoTalk in South Korea, Imo in Cuba, Zalo in Vietnam, ChatOn in Eritrea and BBM in Indonesia.
